Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Deconstruction of Mecha
This is one of the most epic series I have watched. A series I enjoyed to the bone, and felt to the heart. :eyes:
Deconstructing the Genre
Now, I am no lover of mecha, and I always try to stay away from it. Even in the whole Eva series, Rebuild included, never was I “enthralled” by the mecha element. It was always something else that kept me watching.
The show begins and shows you some stereotype characters you might have come across hundreds of times… then slowly but surely, it begins to destroy that archetype of characters. You get deep insights on the characters. Psychological exploration with long intertwined monologues become common.
Shinji Ikari
Shinji, a character has never been so weak, with extremely low self-esteem and issues evolving from poor parenting. He is the hero, yet not. More often, he will irritate you, will frustrate you, but you will soon understand him.
Every anime fan should watch this. Whether you like it or not, doesn’t really matter. Even I found some parts very annoying. That being said, it’s a work that at least deserves attention.
