Mugen no Juunin: Blade of the Immortal's Bloody Legacy
This was amazingly good. Something with heavy truckloads of swordfights and action, enough gore and a excellent journey of its own. The art is realistic styled. Well done backgrounds, nice characterd designs. Nothing much to say, it is one of the strong points of the series. The plot is again really good. There are a few hiccups here and there, but overall, it’s a smooth sail. Everything links up, no plotholes. The beginning is a bit downcasted, but as chapters progress, it gets better and better. A story of revenge and morality, about realtionships and tragedies that befall those relationships… The characters of the story are really good, unique. The story is a journey of Rin and Manji, but it is not entirely that. Time to time we get focus on other characters, and each turn out to be unique. We begin to understand each character, their motives and motivation, their background. Things are always kept grey. I felt that it wasn’t like that this character was bad, villainous, and this was good. Everyone was flawed to an extent… and this is probably why I liked the manga so much. It’s quite amazing in that regard. Rin grew on me, and both Manji and Rin became very likable, and their relationship all the more so. Characters like Hyaku-Rin, Habaki Kagimura, Anotsu Kagehisa… and many others are quite well described, and well portrayed. Needless to say, many became my favourites. Manji for one, is weak.. depends on his immortality to deal with opponents most of the time. As we progress, we find fighters stronger than him, so it is definitely not one of those stories where we get a super powered lead character. OVer the course, I realised Manji was too dependent on his supernatural gift than his own skills… The manga has enough gore to warrant a warning. Not something of the level of Berserk, but still you get heads and limbs flying all over. Moreover, there are also scenes of perverse sexual nature, and rapes to be more blunt and specific, couple with torture… Certainly, all of it was plus point in my book. All said and done, I was annoyed to end when at the end I didn’t see Rin and Manji together. Like seriously. Sure, they had to go separate ways.. but come on!! After 30 fucking volumes I expect some damn satisfaction!! No real complaints apart from the aforementioned though. Overall, defintely something worth reading. A story which can be called an epic journey, filled with regret, questions, morality and tragedy… coupled with loads of action and battles.
