Kemonozume: Love, Monsters, and Unique Animation

A freaky and dark series, decent story with some experimental animation, with more than a touch of violence, horror and sex. :eyes:

Rough, Raw, and Beautiful

I liked the animation. The animation sets it apart from normal shows and would put it in the likes of Kaiba, FLCL, etc… in terms of visually unique. Sketchy art and character designs. Almost gives off that horrific feeling this show initiates. Rough, and very raw.

Romeo and Juliet with Monsters

The plot is where I like to have some reservations. A romance between star-crossed lovers… One a flesh-eating monster, the other a human. Yes, this is cliched, but what the show does is it throws in a lot besides that cliche. And by a lot, I mean a lot of gruesome and horrific parts, lots of sadism and self-loathing.

Where it Falters

What I have reservations about is that it tries a lot. A lot of things. Unfocused. And this is where a romance like Kaiba excels and I feel missed a point or two with the storyline. The story goes haphazard, and a lot of things happen that somewhat alienate the focus of the viewer.

Overall, this was a good watch more carried forward by the sketchy and raw aesthetics and the horror aspect than the underlying story. Definitely worth a watch.
