Chikan Otoko: Don't Judge a Manga by Its Title
This is based on Molester Man’s threads on 2chan. Whether all that was written by Molester Man is true or not will always be up for debate, but the story that came out as a result and this dounjinshi is really awesome. This was really good. It had a touch of ‘realism’ to it that made it all the more better. However, many puns and gags are totally based on the board culture of forums like the chans. That wasn’t an issue with me. The story is real or not can be set aside for a different discussion, however the awesome ride that it takes the viewer to, well… that’s why this is so highly rated. It’s almost entirely narration based from the guy’s perspective so it’s as it was as if I watching things unfold close hand. The romance and drama felt a bit real, not much as gimmicky as you find in most anime/manga. Though the realism that it protrayed had more than a fair share of lulz, parody and humour which is very unique to the boards like 2chan and 4chan. There were some spicy element introduced which I believe didn’t have much in common with the original threads on 2chan but ah well… it made the story interesting, so I don’t really complain. The art isn’t much to expect, considering it’s actually a doujinshi… still, I braved through the almost rough sketchy pages that had more text bubbles than any detail background. So, nothing much here… actually, it’s severly on the low side. What was actually iteresting were the rage faces and all those other reaction faces that get shown from time to time. It was hillarious. Overall, it was an extremely fun ride with tons of humour and a fair ton of romance drama. A must read for someone who has read a fair amount of manga before.
