Frankly speaking, after watching Blood+, I was expecting a better series than this to follow up on the Blood franchise. However, this anime did turn on its head totally in the last few episodes. And I mean it when I say “turned on its head”. :P

The Rant

The story starts slow. Very, very slow… It’s not until the 7th or 8th episode that things do get a bit interesting. Really, it is so slow at times that if there isn’t gore, then almost all the time characters are exchanging dull, meaningless pleasantries.

The climax was so huge that many of my noted flaws about individual characters and their reactions in certain situations before it could now be well explained. But, there were situations when the characters truly acted odd. For example, in the 3rd episode, Saya wasn’t at all shocked, didn’t panic, wasn’t even surprised when someone was killed and smashed to pieces in front of her. The same happened in a few more such situations… and I was like WTF!!??

CLAMP Limbs Alert

There were disproportionate characters at times, with long legs, hands, etc… that reminds me a bit of xxxHolic… but inconsistent unlike xxxHolic (whose art I do favor).

For gore fans, you won’t be disappointed. There is much to sate your bloodlust. But as I always say… plot matters. :| The battle scenes though could have been a bit better.

I think I was a bit too harsh on this series simply because I was always comparing it to Blood+ (which I found really awesome) at the back of my mind. :( Sometimes I think this series could have been condensed into a movie instead of 12 episodes.
